Avoid Exam Stress! Six Tips for Keeping Cool and Calm

Because we all go through this stage in our lifetime, then we can all relate to that feeling of dread that increases as the exam time grows thinner. It’s ok to worry a little bit but it is completely unnecessary to stress over it too much. We are not just saying that; we promise. If you want to keep your mind clear and focus only on your notes, then give this article a read to find out how.

Tip #1 – Talk to someone

This one comes straight from the BBC. To face a problem, you first have to recognize it. As we already said, everyone goes through this and it’s no shame whatsoever to admit that you are stressed.

It is often best to take a step back and relax for a little while to put things into perspective. Ask your friend out for a cup of coffee and tell them what’s wrong; it will make you feel better.

Tip #2 – Take care of yourself

The Irish Times gives us the four pillars that will stabilize your mind. First and foremost, you need to make sure that you are getting plenty of sleep. Those 8 hours per night are crucial for a healthy mind. Because you can’t sleep straight after work, take some time to wind down.

Next is nutrition. You absolutely have to eat on a regular basis, as hard as it can be. A motor doesn’t work without gas and a brain won’t function without food.

Exercise is a great way of relieving some of that built-up stress. Incorporate it into your busy schedule. Use your bike instead of the bus or take the stairs, not the lift. Anything that keeps you active works.

Finally, allow yourself some fun activities. The weekends or the breaks between exams should have you at a party, reading a relaxing book or watching movies with your friends.

Tip #3 – Keep a study routine

There are too many disorganized students out there. Goconqr.com advises us to keep a study plan and heed to it. This way, you will see actual results and progress with each passing day of work.

Tip #4 – Don’t overdrink coffee

We know that with each passing day and the exam coming near, you might feel that you don’t have enough time. This will result in you drinking more coffee to increase your study time. While it seems like a great idea at first, it’s clearly not the case.

While caffeine is a great stimulant, it should be consumed in small doses. It is known that if abused, this substance can lead to feeling similar to anxiety, sleeping troubles or even worse.

Tip #5 – Listen to music

When you feel like there is too much noise inside your head, turn to Beethoven. Classical music is known for creating a positive study environment that will keep you in a good mood as you read those books. Spotify, Youtube, your rehearsing neighbor, anything works.

Tip #6 – Once it’s done, it’s done

Don’t you hate those annoying post-exam questions? You know, those worthless expirations that do nothing but stress you out even more. Once your exam is over, leave the room to escape the pestering questioning of the know-it-alls. You can’t change anything anyway.

Conclusion

Exam jitters are kind of a rite of passage for us all and unfortunately, there are too many of us that give these standard tests too much credit. Grades don’t define you and you can always have an “off day”. Work hard before, stay focused during, and forget about it after you put down the pen.
